How I Work

Everything is in pencil until you decide that it’s right.

An initial consultation is free.  We can meet by phone and you can explain what you need and I’ll explain what I can do for you.  All discussions are confidential, and I am willing to sign any necessary non-disclosure agreements.

Once we have an agreement that I’m the writer/editor you want, there are materials I’ll need from you, which can include your current brochures and ads, web pages, mailings, statistics and briefs about your audience’s relation to your services/products, competitor studies, etc.

I’ll absorb all the material thoroughly, and bring you questions, thoughts, and general ideas so I’m sure I understand you clearly.  We’ll agree on format, length, and tone.  I may also need to interview members of your staff (by phone or email).

Once you’ve received a draft of the copy in MS Word, you’ll let me know what you like or don’t like.  Revisions within 30 days are made at no additional charge.  After a designer has placed the copy, I’ll review it to make sure it works within the design and make adjustments if necessary.  I’ll ask for a digital copy of the final work for my portfolio, subject to your approval (I understand that some copy is confidential and there may be a waiting period before putting it up for viewing).

All projects are delivered in Word™ or PowerPoint™ format. I’m not a designer but can recommend several design houses with whom I’ve worked.  Please check out their websites, which are linked below.

About this blog

charles carney writes… is dedicated solely to showing off the writing portfolio of Charles Carney. That’s me. I understand that every piece of copy is a story waiting to be told—funny or serious, subtle or bold—for clients who want their ideas to have a voice. If you’ve ever been stuck for writing that is clear, smart, and conversational, I think I can help.

Quote of the Day

"I don’t know if Bacon wrote the works of Shakespeare, but if he did not, he missed the opportunity of his life."
